EBR members this year were blessed with two great gimick rallies. The first took participants on a route including the following cities: Massilon, Navarre, Beach City, Bolivar, Canton South, and Canton. The rally finished at EBR’s 30th anniversary party. The Monigolds put together a course enjoyed by all. Winners were decided by tie breakers based on a mural along the route. The Soduk-Lemons team came out on top of some very close competition.

EBR’s second rally had a political theme: directions were given through political phrases: a vote for McCain-Palin meant right, while Obama-Biden took us left. It was another great course with a fun twist. The Soduk-Leons team took 2nd in this event.

Overall, it was a great season!

Tips:

1. Take a clipboard and paper to write notes and answers on: copy them to the official sheet when you finish.

2. Don’t speed: you will miss landmarks and directions and waste time in the end

3. Don’t fight! write down all possible answers and use the best.

4. Take a snack and a drink. It will keep you sharp and less irritable to your partner.

5. Dress for the weather: many rallys have you get out of the car to find clues

6. Make note of anything interesting. It might be used in a tie breaker.

7. Read ahead. It sounds obvious, but it really does help to BOTH read the instructions all the way through before starting. Bonus questions are sometimes put at the end of the instructions so you can be looking for those clue as well if you know about it. You can also get a clue for where you will be heading.

8. While the the use of GPS is somewhat controvercial, there are enough cars with it biult in to consider it fair in most situations. Use it to your advantage. Look ahead for street names and POI’s.

9. Keep track of mileage. It can be helpful to note distance both for time management if you need to go back and find something as well as for the possibility of needing to know at the end how far off from actual you were. Dual trip computers make this easy.

10. HAVE FUN! Its why you went anyhow, right? Make sure to thank the organizers too. It takes a lot of time and effort to put these together and make them work.
